amyamy: (Astronomy love)
clearly, I have won.

The cube is honestly the stupidest design for a computer anyone could ever come up with. They're unstable, can't be added to, can't be opened up to be worked on, overheat, have a SENSOR instead of a power button, and has to be turned on it's side to even get at the inputs. HATE IT!

Also, the one here at work was just full of bugs. Found out that one of the previous Astro interns was using it to back up her computer (because the department has 15 gig to spare? Christ!), it'd never had Disk Doctor or Speed Disk run on it, and for some bizarre reason there are two system folders. Plus, it gets cranky whenever I try to run the scanner and the graphics program at the same time. *sigh*

Luckily, after beating it a few times and performing mac-surgery it's behaving better. Still a little cranky, but at least it's fast about it and has learned to submit to my will.

Bestest boss ever has found another task for me to do. It's boring, but it takes up time. We're finally making a digital library of the slide collection (the slides are all about as old as I am) and I get to do all the processing. This means I'm reading at the computer and pressing buttons, and coming up with "clever" names for the slides, like 'dust cloud', 'dust cloud 2', 'lots of dust', 'HII region' and 'another HII region'. Gods aren't I smart? So very smrt.

Oh, but Debbie's here so I can go home. (Can't leave the scanner sitting out unattended in the lab.) Later!
